1. Short production period
* The radial dial appeared only during a relatively narrow transitional window in the mid-1970s, generally around the Mk III / Mk IV matte dial era.
* Compared to standard matte 1675 dials that were produced over many years, the radial layout existed for a much shorter time.
2. Unique printing layout exclusive to this variant
* The hour markers are positioned slightly farther outward toward the minute track — hence the term “radial.”
* This was not merely a normal service variation; it required a distinct dial printing configuration that was produced in comparatively low numbers.
3. Most examples were heavily used as tool watches
* The Rolex GMT‑Master Ref. 1675 was commonly worn by pilots, travelers, and professionals.
* Many radial-dial watches suffered moisture damage, reluming, dial replacement during service, or polishing over decades, reducing the surviving pool of untouched originals.
4. Many original radial dials were replaced during Rolex service
* During servicing in the 1980s–1990s, Rolex frequently exchanged damaged or aged matte dials for later luminova or standard service dials.
* Because the radial dial was viewed as just another old matte dial at the time, many disappeared permanently from circulation.
5. Collector demand greatly exceeds supply
* Radial dials have become highly recognizable among vintage Rolex collectors because of their unusual visual symmetry and transitional nature.
* Their rarity is amplified by strong demand from specialized Rolex collectors, especially for watches retaining original tritium lume, matching hands, and correct period inserts.
Among matte 1675s, the radial dial is generally considered scarcer than standard Mk 1, Mk 4, and Mk 5 matte dials, though extremely early gilt dials and some niche variants (like certain tropical or error dials) can be even rarer.
