General
The Maserati Quattroporte Series I was produced from 1963 to 1970 in a total of 776 units. The famous Italian designer Pietro Frua designed this masterpiece. Maserati offered this - at the time - fastest limousine in the world in two versions: a newly designed 8-cylinder engine with 4.2 liters displacement and 260 HP, as well as the high-end version with 4.7 liters and 290 HP. Paired with the reliable ZF 5-speed transmission, this sports limousine was capable of top speeds beyond 230 km/h. All conceivable luxury features were standard on the 4.7-liter version, such as power steering, air conditioning, and disc brakes all around. Very much chrome, fantastic Smith instruments, electric windows, beautiful toggle switches, and high-quality, very comfortable leather seats completed the comfort. Famous owners of the Quattroporte included Marcello Mastroianni, Aga Khan, Prince Rainer of Monaco, and Anthony Quinn.
History
The Maserati Quattroporte offered here is a sensation. Delivered as a 4.7-liter with 290 HP in celeste color, with black leather interior and red (!) carpet on July 12, 1967, through the Maserati agency in Saint Cloud / France. The order and delivery invoice are available to us. In 1975, it was resold to Marius Durbec in Marseille. This vehicle was registered until 1990 and was deregistered. Since then, this Maserati has not been officially registered.
This Quattroporte is completely "matching," never involved in an accident, never repainted, and in all parts in an absolutely original condition. The over 50-year-old leather has been reconditioned by Scuderia Sportiva Colonia in a months-long process and is now in a fantastic condition. The old woods have been polished anew and shine almost like new. The Smith instruments have been serviced, all control elements and toggle switches checked, and the electrical system restored. The underbody has been sandblasted and sealed with transparent wax. We have never seen such an authentic and dignified patinated vehicle before. The technology has been restored, such as replacing the fuel pumps, new fuel and brake lines, overhaul of the brake system, overhaul of the air conditioning compressor, water pump, radiator, all hoses replaced, engine and ignition system tuned, Weber carburetors cleaned, adjusted, and synchronized, transmission resealed, new clutch. The most difficult decision was whether to repaint this Maserati or not. Ultimately, the conviction set in that the slightly faded paint due to the southern French sun is so fascinating. This sports saloon is in original paint, free of rust, and without restoration attempts. Only the handle on the driver's door was replaced after a break-in in the 80s. The chrome is patinated but not corroded. Such a dignified aged Maserati V8 is unique on the market. Only to be sold to enthusiasts who truly appreciate such a one-of-a-kind and historically significant vehicle.
