Metal Shark is a leading shipyard supplying custom vessels for commercial, defense, and law enforcement applications worldwide. The company traces its origins to 1986, when Jeanerette, Louisiana-based Gravois Aluminum Boats began producing custom welded aluminum fishing boats for recreational anglers and commercial fishermen. Over the years, the Gravois family developed a loyal following among demanding Gulf Coast fishermen due to the rugged quality of their boats, which were often highly customized to suit the buyer’s needs.
In 2005, Gravois Aluminum Boats turned its attention to government and commercial market with the launch of Metal Shark. Since its launch, Metal Shark quickly established itself as a leading producer of custom aluminum boats for law enforcement, military, and commercial entities. The company has experienced exponential growth under the stewardship of its actively involved owners, who have consistently re-invested in facilities, personnel, and technology. Today, Metal Shark is the number one small boat provider to the U.S. Coast Guard and a leading supplier to the U.S. Navy, Army, Air Force, and the militaries of partner nations worldwide.
While Metal Shark often makes headlines for its numerous large government programs, these are just a part of the story. Increasingly, state and local law enforcement offices, fire departments, pilots associations, commercial interests, and recreational customers are turning to Metal Shark, too. The driving forces behind this continued success are an unwavering commitment to innovation through design and engineering excellence, proven durability, and unparalleled customer support.
Metal Shark understands that no two customers’ needs are exactly alike and the company prides itself on being highly adept at anticipating and accommodating the demands of unique mission profiles. Metal Shark routinely modifies vessel plans to meet very specific requirements. Customization may entail anything from altering the physical dimensions or capacities of the vessel, to the installation of specialized equipment and accessories. Layout, electronics, seating, and virtually any other aspect of the vessel’s features may be determined by the customer. With its in-house team of degreed engineers and naval architects, Metal Shark often designs a bespoke model exclusively for the purpose of meeting a particular set of requirements.
More than simply a boat builder, Metal Shark serves as a top-to-bottom solutions provider, routinely partnering with our customers to assist in all phases of boat buying, building, delivery, and ownership cycles. From working together to determine the perfect boat for their mission requirements, to on-water delivery and training, customers trust Metal Shark to be with them every step of the way.
