The Rolex Submariner 5508 is highly sought after because it combines historical importance, rarity, and classic aesthetics in a way few Submariners do. As an early no-crown-guard model with a slim small-crown case, it retains the elegant proportions of the earliest Submariners while serving as a transitional reference before Rolex moved to more modern crown-guard designs. Its strong association with the early James Bond era further enhances collector appeal, while original examples are increasingly scarce due to heavy historical use and decades of replacement parts. Collectors also value the 5508 for its beautiful gilt dials, warm radium lume aging, and overall vintage character, making it one of the purest and most charismatic early Submariners.

Case: 37mm screw back case marked lll.59 (third quarter of 1959). Case is still clean but has shows signs of polishing before but still retains the beefy lugs.

Dial: 100% original gilt dial with radium markers and hands and reacts appropriately with UV lighting. Dial is in original state and has never been touched up.

Bezel: Original period correct aluminum insert with red triangle is in honest used condition. The bezel ring is original as well.

Bracelet: 100% original Rolex rivet expansion C&I bracelet dated 1972 and is in excellent condition.

Movement: caliber 1530 movement has been well taken care of and was last serviced a couple of years ago.

Accessories: This beauty comes with an original Rolex inner box and its guarantee papers dated 1960 (correct for this watch) and a Rolex guarantee card folder.
