The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Heritage IW501004 (2017–2020, limited to 1,000 pieces) is the closest you will ever get to wearing an original 1940s B-Uhr Beobachtungs-uhr on your wrist. This monumental 55 mm × 13.8 mm bead-blasted titanium case is a near-1:1 recreation of the historic 55 mm German Luftwaffe observation watches — the very same watches that inspired the entire modern Big Pilot line — but executed with 21st-century precision and materials.

The matte black dial is pure 1940s military DNA: oversized diamond-coated luminous hands, massive chapter ring, propeller-style triangular marker at 12, and no date window for absolute symmetry. Powered by the in-house hand-wound Calibre 98300 (based on a classic Jones movement architecture), it delivers a 48-hour power reserve with hacking seconds and a huge 10 mm balance wheel visible through the sapphire caseback. The soft-iron inner cage provides full anti-magnetic protection, while the oversized cone crown ensures easy operation even with gloves.
