DP15 ‘Desiderata’ is a fully wheelchair accessible Dazcat Power catamaran, designed and built in 2008. It offers superb and smooth cruising from the bright and spacious saloon or flybridge and sun-lounging area.
Desiderata comfortably accommodates family and friends with three double cabins, each featuring an ensuite. There are twin doubles in each hull and a master cabin with a large wet room on the saloon deck.
The current owner has enjoyed Desiderata for the past five years, cruising with family and friends. Due to a change in circumstances, this unique boat is now available for purchase, presenting a rare opportunity.
“Dazcat Power 15 - A SUPER SMART DESIGN THAT EXCELS IN A NUMBER OF ROLES – A REAL GAME-CHANGER”
With a range of approximately 300 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 – 15 knots and a maximum speed of 25 knots, Desiderata can serve various purposes: a coastal cruiser for exceptional trips, a channel-hopping delight for quick getaways, a weekend home away from home, or a liveaboard in the sunshine.
The sleek, elegantly minimalist Dazcat design is not only versatile but also fully accessible.
Launched in 2008, Desiderata is a remarkable and stylish boat. Her Dazcat lines, sumptuous lounge areas above and below decks, and innovative solutions all have the wow factor. A major refit in 2021/22, overseen by the original project manager, has brought this beauty up to date.
Vessel Details
The DP15 power catamaran is an exceptional, wheelchair accessible catamaran designed for comfortable cruising. Desiderata underwent major works in 2021/22, overseen by the original Project Manager. This included topsides, foredecks, and sidedecks being repainted; fresh Coppercoat antifouling; new and additional eco-teak exterior decking; and new Rolls Royce water jets.
GRP construction is robust yet light, providing greater fuel efficiency and range. The Vector Joystick controls make helming a delight, whether at the saloon pilotage station or on the flybridge, ensuring easy maneuverability.
Desiderata can be easily handled by a couple or a group of family or friends who enjoy being on the water. Her large tankage and efficient cruising allow for a larger cruising ground and greater choice of destinations, whether for weekend trips or long-distance cruising.
The DP 15 features a horseshoe-shaped flybridge with a second helm position, seating area, wet-bar with fridge and BBQ, and a sun-lounging area. The external lift enables safe wheelchair access to the flybridge.
Ergonomics were a priority during design and build. The flybridge helm seats can be easily retracted to accommodate a wheelchair behind the console when needed. The saloon helm seats raise and lower with push-button control for ease of transfer.
The clean interior styling is bright and airy, with panoramic 180-degree forward views from the interior helm station. Sliding doors allow easy wheelchair access to the owner’s cabin, wet room, and aft cockpit, all designed for ease of use and movement.
The wet room is adjacent to the aft swim deck, opposite the owner’s cabin and at the rear of the saloon for easy access from all areas. The spacious galley is designed to be sociable. Each hull has a double cabin and head with shower, accessible via steps.
The jet drives and hull forms were developed for economy and comfort. The water jets minimize the risk of entanglements and allow access to shallower drafts compared to exposed drives. The wet deck deflects water traveling between the hulls, reducing slamming and cushioning the ride over waves.
A small fold-up ramp provides quick and easy access to the pontoon. A long passarelle stored on the flybridge can be positioned with the crane for stern-to mooring and wheelchair access in various locations. This extends to the pontoon, allowing passengers to wheel onto the aft swim platform. The aft platform lifts to deck level and extends fully into the water to maximize accessibility.
A systems panel by the saloon helm station provides a clear overview of all onboard systems and their status.
Vacuum bagged composite E-glass multi-axial and unidirectional laminates with PVC foam core.
The covered aft cockpit is accessed via sliding glass doors from the saloon and via a passarelle from shore. The hydraulic bathing platform extends aft and can double as a dinghy store when underway. Safety lines secure the cockpit when underway, separating off the stern transoms. Two hatches in the cockpit sole provide easy access to the large engine rooms, and separate stern hatches give access to the drives. A lift with ladder behind provides access to the flybridge. Seating is on top of self-draining lockers, and the cockpit can be fully enclosed.
Enter the bridge deck saloon from the aft cockpit via a large sliding glass door. To port is the owner’s cabin, to starboard the wet room. The open plan saloon area features a spacious galley on the right and a dining area/saloon table to the left, allowing everyone to socialize even when underway.
The stylish interior features cream upholstery seating with American Oak finishes, complemented by pale and darker grey dash areas. A matching cream headlining softens the overall feel. Expansive built-in storage throughout the boat allows for personal items and supplies for everyone on board. There is 6ft 2in headroom throughout.
Saloon & Bridge Deck
The bridge deck salon is arranged with a drop-leaf lifting table to port, helm, systems, and navigation station ahead, and galley to starboard. Steps down to both hulls lead off either side of the saloon.
Helm Station
Taking control of the boat is a pleasure using the Vector joystick, with all instruments clearly visible and operable from a wheelchair or seating. Wynn windscreen wipers can be individually controlled to maximize visibility.
In addition to the navigation equipment listed above, a large switchboard with breakers for all systems is centrally placed.
