Hanse 531

Accommodation

The Hanse 531 owners cabin version offers up to six berths. It features a large owner's en suite forecabin with a dressing area, two twin berth en suite aft cabins, a two settee saloon layout, and a crew cabin/workshop forward. The headroom is 6'6"+ throughout, with further berths possible in the saloon and crew cabin if required. The interior woodwork was upgraded from new to light Cherry, providing a significant amount of easily accessed storage.

Forward Owner's Cabin

The forward cabin is fitted with a large central double berth, a vanity unit/dressing table with a mirror, hanging lockers, and a wide range of easily accessed storage. Excellent natural light and ventilation are provided by three opening hatches to the foredeck, three large fixed portlights, air-conditioning, and a high volume fan.

En-Suite Forward Heads

This area is fitted with an electric marine toilet, holding tank, washbasin, shower, and storage cupboards. It includes an opening hatch and a fixed portlight.

Saloon

The light and spacious saloon consists of a large settee seating area to starboard with an extendable dining table, and a smaller settee to port with a large footstool for comfort or additional table seating. Excellent natural light is provided by two opening hatches, four large fixed upper windows, and three fixed portlights. Further lighting is supplied by a range of downlighters, spotlights, and an adjustable colour ambient lighting system.

Galley

The L-shaped galley, located aft to port, is well designed for food preparation while underway. It is equipped with a Vango dual induction hob, a Panasonic combination microwave/oven, a large double sink, twin front accessed refrigerators, a Dometic CFX 100l dual chamber portable freezer, and plenty of storage.

Navigation Station

Located aft to starboard, the navigation station is fitted with a large chart table, navigation equipment, further instrumentation, AC and DC switch panels, and storage areas.

Port and Starboard Aft Cabins

Each cabin has twin single berths (double berth infills could easily be made if preferred), ample storage and hanging lockers, two opening portlights to the cockpit, a fixed portlight, lighting, and each cabin has access to their own en suite.

Aft En Suites

Located aft to port and starboard, each is fitted with a marine toilet (the starboard toilet is electric), holding tank, washbasin, shower, mirror, and storage.

General Equipment

The factory upgraded real wood veneer Cherry interior features Maple sole boards and leather saloon upholstery (upholstery needs replacing). Open Air two-way blinds are installed on all deck hatches. The boat includes a twin unit Webasto diesel fired warm air heating system, Climma Compact 7 reverse cycle marine air conditioning, and fans in all sleeping cabins. A pressurized hot and cold water system is present throughout, including a cockpit shower via a calorifier with immersion coil. A watermaker provides up to 160l/hr.

Mechanical Systems

Located under the companionway, the Yanmar 4JH3-HTE four-cylinder 100hp diesel engine is freshwater cooled via a heat exchanger. It features single lever controls with electric start and shaft drive via P-bracket to a bronze Brunton Autoprop feathering bronze propeller. A Lewmar bow thruster with controls at the starboard helm is also included.

*There is a non-functioning Fisher Panda generator (Compression Issue). The solar bank keeps up with all a family of 4 or 5 could use except perhaps the Air Conditioning, which would need shore power.

Spars & Sails

The boat features a fractional double spreader rigged sloop with an aluminium keel stepped mast and boom, mast steps, and a solid kicker. The stainless steel standing rigging was replaced in 2018 and includes a Sail-Tec hydraulic backstay adjuster. Running rigging has been replaced as needed. The slab reefing mainsail has a Harken roller bearing car system, lazyjacks, and stack pack. The headsail furling system has lines led aft via clutches. There are 2 x Harken 53 self-tailing sheet winches and a Harken 53 self-tailing electric main halyard winch to starboard, along with a Harken 53 self-tailing halyard winch to port.

Construction

This Hanse 531 was built by Hanse Yachts in 2004 to a Judel & Vrolijk design. It features a white GRP hull with a white superstructure, and teak laid decks, cockpit seats, sole, and dropdown bathing platform. The construction includes a cast iron shoal draft fin keel and a spade hung rudder with twin hide-bound steering wheels. It has a large crew cabin/workshop/sail locker forward and a large self-draining cockpit with cockpit lockers. A hot and cold cockpit shower is included, along with a dropdown bathing platform concealing a huge tender garage with ample space for a large dinghy and other equipment.

To reduce weight, improve performance, and increase strength and long-term durability, Hanse used an epoxy sandwich vacuum system for the hull construction of the Hanse 531 instead of a traditional gelcoat. The last anti-fouling was done in June 2024.

She was affected by a lightning strike in August 2024. Everything, including the rig, was checked by a professional surveyor at the request of the insurance company, and all electronic damage was replaced under insurance.
