Gallant 53 Built in 1969, designed by Van der Stadt and built by Southern Ocean Shipyard in Bournemouth. Fitted in 2005 with a New Perkins M92 -92hp inboard deisel. Originally rigged as a ketch "Mymlen" was re rigged in 2024 with new standing rigging as a sloop but with an additional inner forestay and furling gear. Good specification, lying ashore Bangor
NEW LISTING
Owners Introductary comments :-
The addition of a new standing rigging and a new Sloop rig layout in 2024 has proved a successful modification with greater up wind flexibility and maximizing the cockpit space. Weighing 16 tons Mymlen has 8 tons of encapsulated lead ballast in the forward half of the keel. With her narrow keel and free hanging rudder Mymlen is fastest off the wind cruising comfortably at seven to eight knots but it is her ability to maintain over six knots close hauled in strong winds of 30+ knots that make her a delight to sail
Rig
With 20m air draft Mymlen's heavy keel stepped mast is supported forwards by two roller furling stays. Each has a new Profurl C430 furler and new stay and bottle screw. All fitted 2024. In addition the old inner stay plus Highfield lever can be set.
Capping and inner shrouds plus staysail shrouds and backstay were all replaced in 2024 along with all bottle screws. The result is a strong simple single cross tree rig suitable for high latitudes.
