Auto Union 1000 SP

Condition

The Auto Union 1000 was developed with a three-cylinder two-stroke engine and front-wheel drive. It is the only car from Auto Union with the manufacturer's name as the brand instead of DKW.

The Auto Union 1000 SP was the most powerful version and available as a two-seater sports coupe or roadster. The designation SP stands for "Spezial" (Special). The 1000 SP was introduced in 1957 at the IAA with a 4-speed steering wheel gear shift and freewheel. It was built by Baur in Stuttgart from 1958 to 1965. A total of about 5,000 Auto Union 1000 SP sports coupes were produced.

Compared to the smaller 1000 S model, the engine power was increased to 41 kW / 55 PS through higher compression, as well as slight differences in the engine block and a different carburetor system. The design of the Auto Union 1000 SP was adapted to American vehicles of the time and the trend of the "tail fin". The angular tail fin was softened and rounded from the 1962 model year.

Additionally, from March 1962, starting with chassis number ***4360, disc brakes were installed on the front axle and a fresh oil automatic transmission. Reinforcements were also used to enable the possible installation of seat belts. With the use of the fresh oil automatic, the 32/36 NDIX double carburetor was replaced by a Solex fall-stream carburetor 40 CIB.

The Auto Union 1000 SP offered here was registered on August 2, 1962, with the rounded tail fin, disc brakes at the front, fresh oil automatic transmission, and Solex fall-stream carburetor.

The vehicle is in an authentic condition, in blue with a white roof and beige interior. It has been regularly maintained, and the two-stroke engine runs quite briskly for its 55 PS.
