Discovery 67 Sapphire II of London

Discovery 67, SAPPHIRE II is the most highly specified in her class to launch. She boasts custom touches, including teak floorboards and interior fit-out and furnishings, all designed by the Ken Frevoikh design office. She was conceived and built in order that her first owner could complete the World ARC, which he did very successfully. Her second owner acquired her in 2011, and has just completed his own circumnavigation.

She has been meticulously maintained, regardless of cost, and regularly upgraded. She is the second Discovery for her owners. Around £500,000 was spent on the extras inventory to equip her to the highest standards in all respects. She is the perfect platform for bluewater cruising in utmost comfort and great style.

Owner’s Comments

SAPPHIRE II is a luxurious yacht that offers a pleasurable sailing experience. As our second Discovery, we've found her to be exceptionally safe, stable, and sea-kindly. Capable of covering 200+ nm runs day after day on ocean passages, she can also capture the attention of admirers in any marina. In addition to her impressive sailing attributes, which enable two people to sail her with ease, she has been outfitted with nearly every imaginable creature comfort. Truly, "Sapphire II" is a well-appointed home on the sea. After more than 10 years of sailing, she performs better than ever!

We have sailed her to Sweden and Norway, including the Lofoten Islands. She has completed several Biscay Crossings and crossed the Atlantic and Pacific – all in great comfort and style. We have undertaken significant upgrades during our ownership, with the most recent being a major refit in New Zealand in 2022.

CONSTRUCTION
RCD Status: The yacht conforms with the essential safety requirements of Directive 94/25EC (Recreational Craft Directive) and is categorised A – “Ocean.” Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

• Hull moulding in Flag Blue inc. colour matched port lights, boot top lines in white and red, with gold cavita line.
• Coppercoat antifoul – completely redone in Vigo 2018 and recently retouched in New Zealand.
• Boat completed to meet MCA specification to meet coding for 60 miles offshore. Includes, metal through hull fittings in engine room, upgraded pipe work in engine room, upgraded sea water chest, and upgraded sea water strainers. Keel & Rudder:
• 13,200kg (29,400lb) performance shaped lead keel with 3% antimony hardening provides a ballast ratio of 39%.
• Semi balanced large kevlar reinforced rudder.

MACHINERY

Engine & Gearboxes:

• 1 x Volvo D4, 180hp engine fitted to comply with USA emission standards – major service in New Zealand including new injectors, fuel lines, starter motor, heat exchanger unit, gearbox intercooler.
• Temperature read out for engine room fitted at navigation desk.
• Volvo Penta Easy Connect installed 2021 allowing real time monitoring on iPhone of all systems.

Maintenance & Performance:

• Engine hours - 4053 @ January 2024.
• All systems aboard SAPPHIRE II have been maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Propulsion & Steering:

• Four bladed Gori propeller fitted to reduce noise from prop wash, suitable for the Volvo engine, in lieu of standard prop – serviced 2023.
• Rope cutter.
• Bowthruster control fitted to both pedestals – new 2022.
• Volvo Penta wireless throttle and gear controls renewed and upgraded in 2020.
• Twin layout 32" wheel.
• Black carbon wheels fitted.

Note: There is an abundance of spare parts on board.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

• All electrics conform to Australian Specifications & Requirements, with fully integrated lithium batteries, solar panels and all 12V and 24V systems with built in redundancy and safety.

Voltage Systems:

• 220v 12/24 with the ability to receive 110v; Isolation transformer fitted to receive 110v
• 2 x Additional 220v sockets fitted behind starboard sofa.
• 2 x Additional 220v sockets fitted in locker inboard of navigation desk.
• 2 x Additional 220v sockets fitted outboard at utility area.
• Shaver socket fitted in all heads.

Battery Banks:

• 600Ah @ 24v – converted to 3 x 200 ah Smart Lithium Victron batteries 2022 in New Zealand by Victron agent.
• 200Ah @ 12v.
• Victron Inverter Chargers (both master and slave) replaced in September 2023 to optimise lithium batteries.
• New bow thruster batteries – 2023.
• Temperature read out for service batteries locker fitted at navigation desk
• New Solar Panel system fitted in New Zealand in 2022 – 6 panels generating circa 800 watts plus.
• All batteries and solar controlled via Victron allowing monitoring anywhere in world remotely.

Alternators:

• 12v 60amp to charge engine start
• 24v 110amp alternator to charge main 600Ah @ 24v battery bank – new alternator and regulator 2023.

Generator:

• Onan 13.5kva 50Hz generator fitted, upgraded to accommodate the upgraded air conditioning.
• Exhaust temperature alarm for generator.

Shore Power:

• Shore power sockets have small LED lights to show that they have power to them.

Other Electrical:

• All electric Bamar in-mast
• Foresail furlers upgraded in 2018 to Bamar EJF2 and winches.

PLUMBING SYSTEMS

• Fresh Water & Water Heating System:
• Manual foot pump for galley fitted in the cupboard underneath the sink. Foot pump plumbed into the main galley tap, with a change-over switch for emergencies.
• Watermaker: Seafresh 104 litre/hr watermaker – new membranes and service 2022. Currently pickled.
• 1 x Manual bilge pump operated from cockpit.
• 2 x High output auto electric pumps in main bilge – one new in 2022.
• 1 x Auto electric in forward sail locker – new in 2022.

TANKAGE

• Total fuel capacity of 1,800 litres (395 gallons) in 2 x high density polyethylene tanks – cleaned in 2022.
• 3 x Racor filters; pre-engine and genset – new 2022.
• Genset runs off port side tank only; movement of fuel from tank to tank accomplished by fuel return plus manifolded piping with valves and a pump.
• Fresh Water: Spot filter provided for attachment to dock side hose.
• Compact hose provided to connect to dock side including connectors.
• Grey/Blackwater Holding Tanks: Black water holding tanks for all three heads with electronic tank gauges.
• Tecma electric toilets in all heads.

NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT

• On Deck Electronics – all upgraded in 2019:
• 4 x i70’s multi-functional displays fitted. One fitted to each pedestal, and two fitted forward cockpit starboard side.
• i70 fitted at Navigation desk.
• P70 pilot head fitted to each pedestal in lieu of the standard.
• Axiom Pro + 12 hybrid chart plotter fitted to starboard pedestal.
• Additional Axiom Pro + 12 hybrid chart plotter fitted to the port pedestal.
• Engine data from Volvo engine linked to the Raymarine chart plotters.

• Handheld remote control autopilot mounted at chart table - Raymarine smart pilot controller.
• Raymarine Axiom Pro + 16 hybrid touch screen fitted at the navigation desk.
• 4KW Raymarine HD radar fitted in lieu of the standard digital Radar inc. brackets and cabling.
• Raymarine Raystar 125 GPS Antenna, only linked to the Raymarine equipment (1st GPS).
