The luxury cabriolet internally known as W113 was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963. Due to the additionally available, inwardly curved hardtops, it earned the nickname Pagoda. The W113 was the successor to the Mercedes 190 SL and 300 SL. It was a major success for Mercedes, with a total of 48,912 units delivered by 1971. The Pagoda was the first SL to feature extensive safety measures (stiffer passenger cell, crumple zones, later safety telescopic steering column, seat belts, and a pralltopf in the steering wheel). Furthermore, the SL series was equipped with a dual-circuit braking system, front disc brakes, gas-pressure shock absorbers, and belt tires. The design was by the legendary designer Paul Bracq.
The 230 SL offered here is very special and unique. According to Mercedes Classic Center, it was first delivered to Mozambique. In addition to the color combination Ivory 670, the first owner ordered the extremely rare 5-speed transmission with rear axle ratio 1:4.08 and km display (Code 230). From Mozambique, this Mercedes was sent to Portugal to its second owner, who parked it at the beginning of this century. In 2015, Scuderia Sportiva Colonia had the opportunity to acquire this Mercedes-Benz and subjected it to a complete "nuts & bolts" restoration. Now completed, this Mercedes impresses with its elegant color combination. The engine and transmission are, of course, "matching". All work has been carried out professionally and properly, and the newThe owner can look forward to a nearly brand-new convertible.
