Vehicle description (by seller)

Jaguar

XJC 5.3 Convertible

Year 1974

Exhibition vehicle at the Auto Show in Turin/Italy

the only left-hand drive Jaguar 12-cylinder XJ Cabriolet in the world

History:

The Jaguar XJC 5.3 Cabriolet was originally produced on 29.8.74 under the chassis number 2G 50010 BW as a coupe at Jaguar. This Jaguar was then delivered directly to AVON-STEVENS in Warwick, one of the most renowned bodywork companies in England. AVON-STEVENS was consulted when it came to special Jaguar constructions, both for special bodies and for motorsport.. The goal was in the joint cooperation with the Jaguar factory, to produce a competitive convertible to test the reaction of noble customers, because since 1972 Rolls Royce has been successfully selling the Corniche. Jaguar also hoped to get a share of the four-seater convertible market with this convertible development.

For the Auto Show "Salone dell'automobile di Torino" 1976, the left-hand drive 12-cylinder prestige convertible was to be ready.

Sir William Lyons (founder of Jaguar) was very impressed by the development, design, and sophistication of this E-Type Cabriolet successor, here an archive photo before the fair in Turin, provisionally registered "YDU926S"

The presentation was successful, and this "prototype" Cabriolet was sold directly at the Turin Fair in Italy, sparking further orders in England, Scotland, Australia, and Hong Kong despite its relatively high sale price, resulting in an additional 11 right-hand drive 12-cylinder Cabriolets being produced at AVON STEVENS. A dedicated brochure was even created for this perfectly designed Cabriolet.

Chassis No. 2G 50010 BW remains the only ever built left-hand drive 12-cylinder Cabriolet and was registered in Rome under the number Roma 50777D. In the 1990s, this unique Cabriolet found its second owner, a famous artist in Italy. Careful maintenance and preservation have been invested in this XJ Cabriolet over the years. In 2018, this Jaguar was acquired from the Scuderia Sportiva Colonia after lengthy negotiations.

An up-to-date appraisal values this one-of-a-kind vehicle at €460,000.
