Peugeot 404 Coupé SL Injection – A rare French classic

The Peugeot 404 Coupé is generally regarded as one of the most elegant French coupés of all time, and this example in light blue metallic stands out particularly. Originally discovered in Sweden at a retired Peugeot mechanic's shop, it later found its way to the Netherlands, where it underwent a comprehensive restoration. The vehicle received a complete repaint, new upholstery, renewed chrome trim, and revised interior details. The engine and cylinder head were completely overhauled, ensuring the car runs as reliably as it looks. In 2018, the previous owner acquired this 404 through a German classic car auction and has maintained it with the utmost care ever since. The 404 Coupé is especially rare because many vehicles were converted into convertibles. Although it shares the same body as the cabriolet, an original, well-preserved coupé in excellent condition is extremely rare to find. Thanks to the fuel-injected engine and well-maintained mechanical condition, the car drives wonderfully. Even by today's standards, the engine runs smoothly, and the gearbox shifts effortlessly. Driving this coupé is a true pleasure – a car that must be experienced to fully appreciate its quality. FEATURES AND SPECIFICATIONS* This 404 SL is now painted in the charming color Ice Blue Metallic, combined with a black leather interior, a color-coordinated center console, and chrome accents.
* It is equipped with 15-inch steel wheels in body color with chrome hubcaps, equipped with Michelin XZX whitewall tires (removable whitewall).
* Features include a two-spoke steering wheel, a wood gear shift knob, adjustable front triangular windows, Jaeger instruments, an analog clock, heating and ventilation controls, a BMW Bavaria cassette player, and a foldable rear armrest.
* The handbrake has been mounted in a deviating position from its original location.
* This example is equipped with aftermarket speakers on the rear parcel shelf.
* The vehicle comes with the original Peugeot 404 user manuals, a copy of the original Swedish registration document, a jack, spare wheel, and the current German classic car registration (issued March 2019).
* Two key sets are available.
CONDITION* The car was originally painted red but was repainted before import into Germany in 2019. The interior shows slight age-related patina, and there is a 2–3 cm long crack on the passenger side of the dashboard.
* The last German main inspection was passed in August 2025, valid until August 2027, with no issues.
MAINTENANCE HISTORY* The last maintenance of this 404 SL was carried out in December 2022 at an indicated mileage of 29,220 km by Fischer KFZ-Technik in Germany, including valve adjustment and detailed inspection.
* Previous maintenance was also performed by Fischer KFZ-Technik in March 2020 and August 2020; invoices are available.
